“PIECES OF WOMAN” WORKSHOPS.

All the workshops below are part of the “Pieces of Woman” Exhibition taking place at RePUBlic Gallery, Blyth, NE24 3AE.
The Exhibition runs from the 16th February to 15th March 2025

This exhibition was initially begun after Helen watched the slow decline of her mother who lived for the last few years of her life with dementia. Helen was inspied to produce a body of work around ageing and women. Helen says “I wanted to reflect back to women and myself how beautiful, wise, strong and resilient we are as we age. Watching my mum I became very fearful of my own ageing process and wanted to change how I saw and dealt with that. Western society highlights all the so called flaws to sell women creams, pills and fitness regimes. What I want to show is how powerful we are”.

Almudena has created some exceptional ceramic work that tells the story of the intergenerational relationships women have with one another, themselves and nature. Almudena explores, myths and folklore to highlight these relationships that have often been hidden from our history.

All the workshops are based around the theme of ageing and our relationships with each other. The poetry evening on the 28th sees Cathi Rae travelling up from Leicester to perform along side local spoken word poets and artist Amy Langdown and Lizzie Lovejoy. This will be an exceptional and uplifting event. Cathi then goes on to run a writing workshop the next day based around our ageing stories, this workshop is a women only event.
All the other workshops are open to anyone who would like to come along and try their hand at clay and glass work.

PRIVATE PARTIES FOR GROUPS OR INDIVIDUALS

I'm also happy to run a workshop for private groups or individuals. These are a really fun way to celebrate a birthday or other event or for an individual to get some one to one teaching. These sessions are suitable for all levels of experience, young and old.

You will be taught how to cut glass and design a piece of glass work using a variety of materials. These are then fired in a kiln and you can collect them from the studio the following week (or they can be posted out to you).

For an individual workshop the cost for the day is £300.

For a group the size needs to be a minimum of three people and the cost will range from £60 to £125 per person depending on the size of the items you choose to make.

Due to there only being 24 hours in a day :-) I can only facilitate a limited number of these parties each term, so get in touch early especially if it's for a special date.
