Wanting to be part of something bigger
When I moved to my new studio in Felton it was very much about being part of an artistic community. Purely by chance we ended up with 8 artists, all women of varying disciplines taking the studio spaces and two women working together as partners running Gallery 45, gift shop and mananging the building.
It has been a very interesting journey and I have learnt lots about running a business and trying to be part of a whole.
At the very beginning we tried to be that whole . Collaborating, working together sharing a common vision. But when 10 people come together quite randomly and start trying to work together I realise it is quite naive to think that we can move in the same way as a whole. Everyone has different opinions, different dreams and different ideas about where they want to take their businesses. So after a couple of years we all realised it was better to focus on our own businesses and less on the whole and then come together for events or workshops when we chose. Sometimes I guess, its about learning to go with the flow.
