A day In The Silver Room
It started off as a birthday present for Joe my husband ,but ended up being a full day family excursion. I booked a day in the silver room with a very talented silversmith called Michelle Johnson . Both Joe and myself and our two very keen teenage daughters ,(keen is not a word I would usually use when describing them doing something with mum and dad) booked a workshop with Michelle ,each designing and making a silver ring.
Michelle has her new studio all set up in Corbridge. We were warmly greeted with tea and coffee, given explanations and demonstrations and then allowed to "play" with pieces of copper, hammering patterns and designs into them, well she wasn't going to let us loose with silver straight away.
We all made a proto-type ring out of copper first and then she guided us through the stages of making it out of silver.
It was a brilliant day. My teenage daughters ,Joe and myself loved it and both would like to come back and extend our knowledge.
Michelle is a brilliant teacher. The day was relaxed but she sets a good pace. She was able to give lots of one to one tuition and if you got stuck she was on hand to help you out.
